Wandering around the garden with the dog this evening I decided to try a taking a couple of photos of an Evening primrose aka Evening star we have, it was introduced into the UK in the 1600s and has since become naturalised mainly on dry waste ground, roadside verges, sand dunes and of course railway cuttings.
It has large four petal yellow flowers that only open in the evening. These blooms appear on tall spikes between June and September and attract bees, butterflies but mainly moths benefit from the nectar it produces.
I'm no expert on plants and flowers, in fact I know very little, but these delicate plants are probably hardly ever noticed by most people due to the times they open, by morning daylight they are pretty much finished until the next evening when the next few pods open...
And now for something completely different
