Wales - be very careful!

Post by OldBear »

As some of you will be aware, the clowns at the Senedd have been hard at work and despite 2 thirds of the votes against this (that's democracy for you), they have introduced a 20 mph speed limit in place of the national 30 mph limit standard as from today.

This will not show on your Sat-Nav until the map updates have caught up with these changes, and this will take time as some places will remain 30 mph and could yet change. You will have to look carefully at the speed limit signs if travelling through Wales in built up areas, you may be overtaken by bicycle riders who could overtake on either side of the car knowing some so it will be a bit like driving in london...

Anyway, take care and watch out for the enevitable scameras.

Hopefully Wales will quickly become a tourist free zone. They'll moan a lot then!

It's such a shame as it's a beautiful country, I've spent a lot of time visitiing and enjoying most of Mid and North Wales over the years, spent a small fortune there as well.

I was expecting the vote against this to influence the outcome, but they have shown complete disregard for our democratic process and gone against the wishes of the people of Wales regardless. The Welsh people should be very angry about being dictated to in this high handed manner, hopefully they will remember all that is going on when it comes to voting time.

I do agree with a 20 mph limit outside schools at the appropriate times of day, kids are not taught road safety any more.

We are going to Anglesey again in a few weeks time, we usually travel there using scenic routes wherever possible starting after the M54 Shrewsbury then taking the A5 through Llangollen etc right through the middle of Wales to enjoy the natural beauty plus the lovely towns/villages along the way. We usually stop and buy something to eat, walk for the dog (and us) before carrying on, I enjoy the journey as much as the holiday itself. This year however we decided change this and go up the M6 and take the A55 around the top of Wales instead.

We have decided to boycott Wales completely after this year, I'd cancel the forthcoming holiday if it didn't mean losing the money we have paid. If the majority of others do the same then you are absolutely right Sanwin, Wales could be tourist free, the Senedd will be happy with less cars on the roads, and we won't have to risk their idiotic 20 mph limits, everyone is a winner except the tourist industry, shops, restaurants, filling stations etc.
On a related note, I watched this great revelation on GB News this morning when they were discussing the pros and cons of this.
The experts reckon it won't affect journey times by more than a minute and won't increase fuel consumption at all...

The journey times won't be affected much more than a couple of minutes in a small town or village, the time will increase when going through a large town and even more in a city due to it being over a longer distance - simple logic.

I have driven through a few 20 mph zones in Scotland and on more local roads to be in Birmingham (they are creeping in everywhere). Like a lot of cars, my car pulls from 1500 RPM which means I can use 4th gear in a 30 mph zone and even 5th on a level road, in the 20 mph zones, I have to use 3rd gear to keep the engine at around 1500 RPM unless there is an uphill incline where I have no choice but to use 2nd gear at this engine speed.

The engine when using a lower gear for the same distance will obviously do more revolutions per mile, this in turn will put out more potential pollution for the same distance travelled and use more fuel despite what they are telling you, so the decision makers are either stupid, misinformed, or liars. Judging from the people they interviewed, they were obviously clueless on the basic principles of vehicle operation, so they are basically snake oil sellers... Next they will be complaining about more air pollution than usual, just wait and see!

Good thought as it's a playground for many. I don't belong to any such group as such, but I'll email a letter to the Motorcycle Action Group magazine and see if they'll print it.

Mark it urgent, once they see it isn't going their way they could remove the petition, we know how these sort work :|

Citizen Khan needs that money to prop up the mismanaged and failing TFL, his aim is a pay per mile for driving a car including battery cars. That man is a total disaster for london, but perhaps people are slowly starting to wake up and act in order to take back control of their city from little tinpot dictators like Khan and co.
Oh dear, what a shame, all those broken cameras...

I don't usually raise old topics but this is relative to the subject so an update was justified...
Could this be a bit of common sense kicking in or just more empty words, who knows. Anyway, possibly a little bit of encouragement for those living and working in Wales or visiting spending their money.

Yes, a sop I fear, followed by a watering down if what should happen.
