Today I....
Today I made good progress building the new Dacia Owners Club UK Forum with our Tech Nerd Robert
We have also reinvented the popular Today I... Thread where members can post their highlight of the day.
This does not have to be car related, It can be any up or down from your day that makes your day stand out from other days.

Re: Today I....
Always a positive: Today marks 19 days of isolation without sugary foods and drink. Walking 5 miles each morning, no meat, dairy or flour. The change has been fantastic!
I've cut out alcohol and feel fabulous !
A healthy vegan diet, gluten free, caffeine free, sugar free and a 2 hour home workout each day! Lost 30 lbs of fat and gained muscle mass!
I have no idea whose status this is, but I am really proud of them so I decided to copy-paste!

Collected the prototype internal club stickers for inside the windscreen,
They look ok so will now have to decide on size then get them ordered next week.
So we should have them available to purchase in our sticker shop soon.

Re: Today I....
Unfortunately they will be a bit more expensive than the external ones as they are more complex to make and more material than the external ones as they need a backing on them so they are not transparrent,

Oh! look what arrived today,
Thanks Dacia I never win anything.
Just as well my Mrs entered the draw and not me, because I did not win it, Mrs luckier than me did.
I knew nothing about it until its arrival in the post today so what a surprise I got, It seems a decent bag too.

I've only come across a handful of locking nuts for sale here and haven't seen em on any car I've ever come across in SA. They seem quite rare here. Has wheel theft been something you've witnessed Dust Buster?Dust Buster wrote: βMon Oct 12, 2020 7:20 am

I would say that any new car purchased in the UK with alloy wheels, the manufacturer supplies locking nuts/bolts !TheMightyMuggle wrote: βTue Oct 13, 2020 3:06 pmI've only come across a handful of locking nuts for sale here and haven't seen em on any car I've ever come across in SA. Yes, neighbour opposite me found his vehicle on bricks one morning, but he has too many vehicles. This one was parked on the street.TheMightyMuggle wrote: βTue Oct 13, 2020 3:06 pmI've only come across a handful of locking nuts for sale here and haven't seen em on any car I've ever come across in SA. We also had a petrol thief that would slash the fuel line under the vehicle to do his siphoning. Fortunately he was caught just as I was investigating a braided line to the under-tray.
We get a lot of semigrants thinking there's more jobs here.

Today I....
Have made this thread a sticky and relaunched this thread for you all to tell us what makes your day stand out from other days.
This can be anything in your day, does not have to be car related, So if your day has stood out tell us what has made it different from a normal day.
Done something new/different, tried something new/different, been somewhere new/different, cleaned your car, discovered a new product, tried something and liked it, tried something and did not like it, booked a holiday, ordered a new bit for your car, fitted a new bit on your car.... The list is endless
Just remember you have to start your comment off with

Re: Today I....
Today I....
Started reading this thread, turned the TV off and made a cup of tea to have while going through the rest of the posts on here. It's 02:22 so technically I can carry on with this later, when I've actually done something
It's 12:25 and I still haven't done anything productive so a successful morning, I thought I heard my Wife muttering about some jobs but I couldn't hear her properly as I went out the back door on my way to the garage... Shame I lurked around out of the way and did a couple of man things like tidy the stuff in the garage, admire the Duster etc as you do. I have been back in the house since though and made a coffee for us both - whilst at the same time carefully steering the conversation away from domestic job related stuff, phew
13:05 Thought it was too good to last, just finished lunch and enjoying a cuppa.... Can you fit those new taps we bought the other week because I can't turn the hot tap off upstairs... Groan from me, OK love no problem, so that's done, should have been a quick change the washer job, but the tap handles and covers are made of some awful alloy and have corroded so much you can't take them to pieces without destroying them (modern crap)! Now is time to walk the dog

I thought you may have accidentally driven over some of those weirdo's who glue themselves to the road and become part of it, thinking they were speed humps.... until I read the date you posted this

Re: Today I....
My Duster came with these fitted but unfortunately no removal tool, they look great although the locking wheel nut doesn't have one, had to use thin nosed pliers to get them off and being a lazy sod I took them off in the end and left the originals as they were. I might try painting them later this year including the locking one and see how that goes.Roger wrote: βMon Oct 12, 2020 8:37 pm You could do with some of these to protect your nuts !

Thought I'd start by saying good day to anyone else who logs in and wish you all a great day
Later I am going to fit a rubber seal to the Duster to stop the dust and crap entering the top if the engine compartment between the bonnet and grille plus headlights so I'll probably pop a couple of pics up later - my real mission is to fill the forum up with stuff!
My job's done, hasn't anyone else done anything today?

Re: Today I....
Car park slots too small for most modern cars, should be at least another foot/300mm wider so we can open our doors - like the Mother and child slots are!
Nice looking truck tho' If I were made of money I'd import a Raptor V8, Sadly I'm not, but I am more than content with my Duster

Oh i loved my duster, hence why there is still 1 in the household, albeit my sons , the ranger is a work thing tbh im either spanner spinning or making dads house disability friendly.OldBear wrote: βMon May 02, 2022 9:02 pmCar park slots too small for most modern cars, should be at least another foot/300mm wider so we can open our doors - like the Mother and child slots are!
Nice looking truck tho' If I were made of money I'd import a Raptor V8, Sadly I'm not, but I am more than content with my Duster
My ranger was bought as a cat registered car , needed a fair amount but its a 15plate 3.2 new ford engine 19k ago and owes me 10k ish so it ticked all the boxes
Looked at an 2017 f150 v6 ecoboost today 17k for a petrol the dash claims 30mpg? The current owner isnt getting on with the lhd bit, but could be willing to trade
Insurance quotes tomorrow

I look at this site for specifications on different cars www.ultimatespecs.com/car-specs it has mpg figures in UK and USA gallons
30 may be possible but I'd think a bit lower may be more the average due ot the size of the truck, still good considering what it is though!

Think the Duster will be getting wet, it's been dry for a while now - I didn't need to go out, now I need to go out, roads are wet and crappy and it's drizzling..... Oh well
Managed to avoid using my car, used my Wife's instead, her needs a wash anyway so I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself over that outcome..... Sneaky OldBear eh

Re: Today I....
So after spending the last 24hours at hozi with dad, he had rhe right hip replaced (complete reconstruction) the 3hour expected op started at 11am he came back to rhe room at 18.30 he lost losts of blood needed 4 pints but as he needs radiated blood due to the lymphoma they only had 2pints needed to get more from another hozi.
Give blood guys n gals it takes no time.
So after a sleepless night he is compus mentus in pain but hopefully on the mend.
So after consuming loads off coffee i started cleaning the monster and a bit of p.m (preventative maintenance) small service.
Cleaned , dried and hoovered seats leather cleaned
and treated.
Yep then it pissed down but hey its clean.
I was gunna upload pics but it wont let me, either says file too big? Or cant verify url ?

First of all, very best wishes to your Dad for a speedy recovery from the op, and a better quality of life as the healing process progresses.colin39 wrote: βWed May 04, 2022 5:30 pm So after spending the last 24hours at hozi with dad, he had rhe right hip replaced (complete reconstruction) the 3hour expected op started at 11am he came back to rhe room at 18.30 he lost losts of blood needed 4 pints but as he needs radiated blood due to the lymphoma they only had 2pints needed to get more from another hozi.

You've had a long and very busy day!!! I know the feeling when you clean and it rains only too well
I had that error once on here, but thought it was the image size that caused it so I edited the image and it was OK when I next tried and I wasn't sure whether it was size or the format which I also changed at the same time. I'd guess size may be a factor, the default limit on phpbb is 256kb but one of Nessi's images is 326kb so it must have been upped a bit. What size are your images?

4000 x 3008 is a big image, massive in fact, but I guess that's just you
Love the color of your truck too, really suits it and it doesn't look like the usual abused examples I have seen up here on occasion!!
Bet no one messes with you on the road either

Re: Today I....
Rumour has it you still use both
Those were the days when dropping your phone could entail a visit to the A&E, people were more careful back then...
On a slightly more serious note, how about wind up house and cellular phones for when the wind doesn't blow? We had wind up land-line phones years ago, and they have made wind up cellular phones since.Taking this further how about wind up cars? Passengers could sit there and benefit from leg and arm exercise plus the kids in the back won't get bored - no need to stop & charge for hours and you'd save a fortune

Will be washing my Wife's car and possibly vacuuming the interior, I noticed it could do with this when I drove it yesterday
Is anyone else doing anything today of are you all just sitting drinking wine and eating cheese, and catching some rays?

To colin39 hope your dad is progressing well after his hip replacement. Usually a very successful op, I've had a right one done plus a left knee and awaiting a call for a shoulder joint replacement so know from experience how clever and life changing joint replacement surgery is! However a 3 year wait for the shoulder is too long but I'm more fortunate than some who are in a more dire state than me.
Called into the Dacia dealer earlier to check on my car now expected end of June. Apparently they put their prices up today (5/05/22) and the stepway is Β£1k more now!! Glad I ordered it then and still amazing value especially the bi-fuel option.

Made a rack of butteries (also known as rowies).
They are a breakfast item traditionally from this area, they a popular item for fishermen to take to sea, as they last a lot longer than bread and a good source of energy (but they are very high in fat).
Some folk eat em cold, some heat them under the grill,
Some folk like them buttered, others also like them spread with jam

Some folk eat em cold, some heat them under the grill,
Some folk like them buttered, others also like them spread with jam
I have made them for some folk that have never had them before but want to try them, they are setting off on a 160-mile journey tomorrow (they will not last long when they get there ).
From just seeing the picture that was a good close description of them...
Now if you got a croissant and ran over it twice with a tractor that would be the closest you would get to making a buttery if you can't make them the traditional way like we do

Today I....
Experienced a major equipment failure, my Braun OralB Pro 2 battery operated toothbrush wouldn't fire up, I won't repeat my words at the device here
Bought it on May 18 2021, so that's less than a year old! I've used Braun toothbrushes for years, they usually last between 3 and 4 years so this was particularly infuriating. I stripped it down, tested the battery which was OK, the motor appears to work too, so it's the printed circuit board I reckon. If they made a simple one with an on/off switch and no circuitry it would be far more reliable.
Fortunately I have a reserve backup device, a good old fashioned manual toothbrush - these never fail to operate even in adverse conditions, and require no electric power.
Looking through the huge number of variations available, I did have a chuckle to myself, why would anyone want a "smart" toothbrush that connects to their phone - this is a type of madness....
I've ordered a new battery operated toothbrush but a different model, this time the Braun OralB Pro 3500 - so it should go a bit faster

Re: Today I....
Maybe we should have a guess where Nessi is competition. Looks a nice place to stay and decent parking. High pitched roof so I'd guess its fairly high up. Not many clues in the photos, but doesn't look like a river, more a loch...

Re: Today I....
Hope you all enjoyed your meal. This post reminds me of a guessing game we used to play on a car forum I was a member of, if someone went somewhere nice whether it be a national park, small town/village, historic building etc, they'd take a few photos and post them when they got back, the rest of us had to try and guess the location or area as close as possible - passed the time between car related posts, and there were some pretty spectacular photos too on occasion!

Re: Today I....
Lovely photos, the Duster looks good and you appear to have good weather too! I like the totem poles - is there a proper name for those in Scotland? I've noticed an increase in chainsaw carvings in forestry areas over the years from small to large. I have no idea at present where you are, I'll need to look closer at the photos but don't hold your breath
Edit: Love the view back at the lodge over the water in this photo 20220510_202451.jpg 16th one down!

If they sent you a photo from a speed camera through the post, send it right back and tell 'em it's way too expensive and really bad quality..

Re: Today I....
Very nice photos, King Robert the Bruce, Dunfermline Abbey, never been sadly but looks a wonderful place which is obviously steeped in history! The 3 bridges just North of Edinburgh, Firth of Fourth rail bridge (1890) in the backgroud to the right of the windmill thing, you can just make out the Forth Road Bridge (1964) behind the nearest Queensferry Crossing (2017). Each is an engineering wonder in it's own unique way from very different eras, superb stuff!
To see all three bridges from there air, here's one I took earlier (just kidding)

Re: Today I....
Today I....
Am feeling a bit frustrated. We had scaffolding put up at the back of the house last week, Saturday I went up and power washed the whole of the wall from apex to just above ground level. I also took off a couple of ridge tiles and re-cemented them back in place adding a stainless steel 3 spike bird stopper to put an end to those blasted pigeons sitting on the apex and defecating all down the wall, and onto the upstairs window sill which destroys the varnish I also hosed a lot of mess off the roof too, yuk!
Yesterday I started applying the masonary paint left over from the front - which I did a couple of years back, to see whether it looked OK before comitting to the whole job, Wife approves so I have the official go-ahead. Today the weather is unsettled, sun and showers and it looks like it will be for the rest of the week, you can't paint in the rain or when it's too hot. So it looks like the coming weekend is the first chance I'll get to hopefully complete the job, Unless of course the weather Gods decide otherwise....
Not to worry, I'll wash my Wife's car again as she insists on parking in a road stone car park and constantly gets it covered in greyish splashes and mud, I can drive into the same car park and my car remains clean except for some slight marks on the tyres

Re: Today I....
Today I...
Am now feeling hungry thanks to Nessi and his lets make OldBear feel hungry posts just before he is thinking about sleep They look very tasty, just what I could do with right now, I'm gonna have to go grab a few digestives and maybe some cheese on them to tide me over til breakfast
I've been very busy with fish pond removal - the fish all went to a good home, removing the liner, demolishing a triple concrete block underground retaining wall during the warmest days we had, 2 full days to do this, ordered and filled a skip with blocks, bricks, and concrete bases, had 6 tons of dirt delivered on the drive and got that barrowed into the hole that was the pond, took me nearly 5 hours to do that with a couple of tea breaks, then cleared up afterward. Next job on the list, went up and trimmed the fir trees and removed a 3 foot that was overhanging neighbours garden - they are too bloody idle to cut their side so they now have bare trunk showing Next job was cutting hedges and the enevitable fortnightly lawn cut, can't do any more as I've filled both bins
Apart from the stuff above, I designed and made some custom dashcam mounts to fit onto the rear view mirror. I bought a pair of Mobius action cameras and all the hard wire bits back in 2017, couldn't fit them in my last car due to lack of space. I replaced the internal batteries with capacitors which are more tolerant of the heat and cold you get in vehicles, they don't hold a charge like a battery, only enough to keep the camera clock going. My original intention was to have one front and back, but I decided to fit one in my Wife's car as well, I might get a cheap rear one at some point, I'll see...
Even though the Mobius are small units, there wasn't anywhere I was happy with for mounting them hence the need for my own mounting solution, I'll pop a proper post up when they are in place, I'm awaiting delivery of the cmos/lens extension cables as I'm installing this seperately from the camera itself for more of a stealthy look although you can always spot the lens regardless.
. Edit: Bloody hell, even Colin39 is making me hungry, I adore toasties - looks like you are ganging up

Re: Today I....
Hey man, maybe everyone else is chilling out drinking wine, eating some cheese, and catching some rays...
Apart from my paying job, I always seem to be doing something whether it's house or garden jobs, car related things also have an equal priority to me although I am pretty much alone in that view here , then there's the dog stuff like walking, brushing and combing, plus grooming every few weeks, it never seems to stop, no wonder I can't get any time for man cooking sigh...... It's just dry biscuits for OldBear

Re: Today I....
Today I...
am angry and disappointed, I ordered my 2 cables for the dashcam installs on Saturday, they were shipped the same day. Tuesday they would have been in the mail system for delivery on Wednesday - but they were on strike so nothing on Wednesday, and now nothing on Thursday. I paid Shipping of Β£8.00Β for Royal Mail Special Delivery (Next Working Day).
Garbage service provided again by Royal Mail. If anyone on here works for Royal Mail, this is not a pop at you personally, it is the totally useless organisation you work for.
I have an account with what was Hermes, now called EVRI, they are far more reliable. I can drop an item off at a local shop by latest 22:00 Hrs, it will be collected next morning (except Sundays), and it is delivered next day - no problem at all, and it's cheaper. I wish online shops would use these EVRI instead of Royal Mail aka Royal Fail.
Very angry OldBear
Update, after contacting the selling company, they have refunded the shipping charges in full, which I think is very decent of them.
Friday 17:26, still not here...
Saturday 09:30 - they turned up - Royal Mail Special Delivery (Next Working Day)
But at least now I can complete my task

Re: Today I....
Today I ....
Was thinking about the fact I washed my Wife's car yesterday, then today she went out and came back with dirt on it.... I also gave my car a full interior clean.
Also today between work, I polished my car, cleaned all the black plastic trims, finishing off tonight cleaning the tyres, polishing the wheels then finishing off with my new PoorBoys Wheel Sealant. The wheels look great too so thanks Colin39 for the tip

Definitely reminiscent of older waxes except for the pink color, It's a nice smell (I could almost wear it), between the Poorboys, and the Meguiars Gold Class Carnauba Plus Wax the Duster is smelling so good I'm taking her out latercolin39 wrote: βTue Oct 11, 2022 4:13 amLove poorboys, the smell is also very nostalgic to old style waxes, dont you think?OldBear wrote: βMon Oct 10, 2022 9:56 pm Today I ....

Today I...
Thought to myself, how quiet everyone has been for the past day or two.... I then realised that maybe everyone was getting prepared and organised for Christmas, this then alerted me to the fact that as usual (every year) OldBear is totally unprepared.... So I have ordered my Wife a Christmas card on-line.... Hopefully it will arrive quicker than the tube of Tiger Seal PU Adhesive that was supposed to be delivered on Monday November 28th and still hasn't shown up

The card is the more important item, supermarket cards are OK but they are a bit repetitive and my Wife hates teddy bear cards so I have to look elsewhere. Suggested e-cards the other year, that didn't go down too well...... Shame, I could have saved a few bob

Today I...
Will save the cost of buying a new washing machine! It started some serious shaking and making a helluva rattling/banging noise then decided to try moving from it's alloted space across the floor. My Wife was on the point of ordering a new one thinking the drum spindle was bent or the bearings were shot - darned thing is only 5 years old! The mere thought of spending more money spurred me into immediate action...
Took the top and back off, investigated the problem, everything OK except for the shock absorbers. Ordered a pair for around Β£28 which arrived yesterday.

Fingers crossed for you. Iβve long stopped trying to repair broken βwhite goodsβ! In the past Iβve had both success and failure repairing them. We have a second fridge in the garage, itβs a beer fridge now-a-days, we purchased it in 1978 just after we got married, it was second hand then! A bit of plastic inside broke years ago but it still works well. Donβt make them like they used to!OldBear wrote: βThu Dec 22, 2022 8:41 am Today I...

Thank you The job went OK, the proof of the proverbial pudding is when it's next used - not thing I get too involved with although I can work it... sort ofForlorn Hope wrote: βThu Dec 22, 2022 9:13 amFingers crossed for you. I just don't like waste and needless additional expense when something can be repaired .
No they do not make things like they used to, my Grandparents bought a gas cooker when they got married, it was still there and working when they departed this world. They preach incessantly about sustainability and resources these days but it's not applicable it seems to many manufacturers. Manufacturers were told they had to make spares available - most did, but when their charges for spare parts costs almost as much as a brand new replacement item that should tell you something about their sincerity! Built in obsolescence, if interested look here for an easy read covering a selection from the bag of monkey tricks used by Companies https://durabilitymatters.com/planned-obsolescence/
I like the idea of a beer fridge though

Disabled the auto headlights on my Wife's car, she got fed up with all the dull weather lately causing the headlights to be permanently on needlessly. I think she wanted to wait until her car was out of warranty really - unlike her maverick OldBear husband who just dosen't give a damn about such things

Re: Today I....
Today I
was getting minor grief from our Duster, think it was trying to say its Sunday so it wants the day off, Made it work so it gave me grief
First of all just as we was about to leave for an away day, Noticed the rear number plate was hanging off so had to hunt down some sticky pads to stick it back on.
Dont think it was very impressive that I sorted that and made it work, so on the way back it decided to pop a headlight bulb, Think it was trying to give me payback for making it work when it wanted a day of rest .

Great sketch, superb series, absolutely loved the Basil Fawlty character, he gave a red Austin 1100 Countryman a "damn good thrashing"

Ok some of you may not know my Dads story AKA my best friend.
He is a Lymphoma survivor (until it returns and it will) he is 76, 2 weeks ago and has battled this poxy thing for 13years and chemo has taken its toll, both his hips have been replaced and he was awaiting his knees.
He had his right hip replaced 5 weeks ago, and had a fell 11 days ago braking his right femur at the point of replacement silly old fart. The hospital left him in discomfort (pain) while the decided how to fix him and Monday made a start, thats where the problems started so they needed fix the break replace the damaged joint, the operation took from 7.30am till 2200 during the opp he lost 12units of blood , he's a little bleeder, since then he has needed another 6 units, and being a lymphoma patient he can only have irradiated blood. As of today he is out of intensive care and in a high dependency ward, although stable he is far from out of the woods.
The point of this everyone Is please if you can give blood, i have always been a donor but over recent months have not donated , he always gave blood and tbh if he didnt they would never have found his blood cancer. Please please please if you can , if you have the ability go and Give Blood.
Thank you

It is very surprising how being a blood donor is getting you a regular health screening, Even from the little spot they take before you donate can tell them more than you realise.
I remember when I took my son for his first donation, he was shocked they turned him down because he had too much iron in his blood from the energy drinks he would not stop drinking, but that shocked him into sto[[ing drinking them overnight.

J C is rumoured to be making a similar new series with his daughter. Given the constraints of this mad PC world it'll be as funny as watching paint dry!
Re: Today I....
Revised my opinion of me Duster. Previously looked down my nose at it as it was βcheapβ compared to the competition.
Now realise that it has coped with everything asked of it including motorway miles, off road 4x4 fully laden and 6000 Miles trouble free at 50+ mpg.. What more do I want, time to give credit where credits due I think.

Re: Today I....
@ Craftydab, there's a lot of people who bought very expensive cars, Range Rovers, Jeeps, etc and they don't get the mpg or the overall reliability we do in or cars, then there's the servicing and spare parts prices, plus insurance cost, and the "nickability" appeal to certain elements in society..... Too much grief to contend with.
Put simply, you made a very wise purchase, and that goes for any of the models

Today I replaced my bird feeder with one that had a top big enough to keep the suet pellets dry. After that I had to have a lie down as I was overcome with an attack of the vapours due to the excitement

Yeah I know, it's pretty exciting stuff i have two bird feeders, both home made. They were originally open but with the rain spoiling the food and the damn pigeons scoffing it all up - leaving literally none for the song birds, I made tops for them both, saved a fortune in bird food too since. I also put out fat balls and meal worms aka crispy crunchies for the blackbirds and robins

Our bloody birds turn their beaks up at fat balls and peanuts, but they will deign to partake of suet pellets!
