Hello,
We bought a second hand Dacia Sandero Laureate last year when our previous car snapped it's cambelt on the M25 and had to be scrapped!
We are very pleased with it.
We are both in our 70s so don't need a large car now, and apart from the occasional long journey it is used mostly for local journeys.
Over Easter and afterwards we will be driving to Portsmouth and Newcastle Upon Tyne from our home on the Isle of Sheppey, so much longer journeys!
Let's hope we can get fuel, as there have been awful shortages locally.
I look forward to reading and sometimes joining in the posts on the forum.

You have bought yourself a very nice reliable car and I'm sure you will enjoy it for many years to come.
I used to live just outside Newcastle upon Tyne, small market town called Morpeth, well it was small back in the 60's!
That's a pretty long journey from where you are to Newcastle upon Tyne, around 330 mile or so, but You should get a very decent mpg figure over that distance if the traffic is reasonable.

We make a day of the journey, with a few stops along the way.
We know Morpeth quite well as it is a short trip from Newcastle, and a lovely little town.

What was the car and what was the mileage when the cambelt snapped ?

It was a Ford S Max 2 litre diesel which had been fixed after an insurance write off ( dented doors). It had done about 150,000 miles, and was a 2007 model, so not worth repairing. We got £500 from scrapping it!
We bought it for towing a caravan, which we didn't use during lockdown, so eventually sold that.

Northumberland is a beautiful county, mixture of different scenery and you are not far from bonnie Scotland either.
Well I guess like me, you can call yourself a Geordie at heart even though living many miles from the homeland.

My Wife and I went up to Geordie land a few years back, stayed at a lodge at Kielder forest on the edge of the lake, beautiuful place and the dog we had at the time loved it, but when the sun went in or it got to evening, the dreaded Midge Masses descended, almost as bad as Oban in Scotland (sorry Nessi ) we were totally unprepared and didn't have any midge repellant, it was only around the lake though, when we ventured away from there it was fine.

Nice to hear someone else likes Morpeth, I always remember the clock tower just in the town after crossing the bridge over the river Wansbeck, I've crossed that bridge many times and also the stepping stones further up river, many happy memories.

If you think Oban is bad dont venture up to Mallaig, I pulled up in the car by the time I had got from the car into the holiday cottage (just about 10 yards run) my face looked like Beans on toast.
Best midge repellant is garlic tablets, take one a day and the wee shites dont bite, apparently the little vampires dont like garlic, but take odourless garlic tablets so your breath does not stink like a Italians fart... (The same tablets taken one a day in winter keeps colds away).

Thank you for that double use tip Nessi , never would have thought of odourless garlic tablets. I was only aware of spray on repellant and it's not exactly cheap! Yes it was a bit like that where we were, had to pop out to the car to get the dog's after dinner treats - I ran a short distance to the car, grabbed them and ran back, jumper was covered in the blighters. Unfortunately, doing that transported them directly into the lodge so much wafting around with towels to get them took place. Some rave about a avon product called skin so soft, but I found it nowhere near as good as the garlic tabs, If they are bothering you indoors burn a candle that helps keep them away.
