2024 TCe 130 - Hybrid 140 - ECO-G LPG models

Post by OldBear »

Dacia Duster: TCe 130 vs Hybrid 140 vs ECO-G LPG. Fuel consumption economy test: www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0ldOmPOacg
Speeded up video but an interesting comparison of the fuel consumption figures, we won't of course be getting the LPG version over here!

TCe 150: 550 mile range, TCe 130: 500 mile range - summer & winter, 5 mins to refill!

Excellent, Oldbear. What a pity all vehicles aren't tested like this. Typical no LPG version over here, but not surprising given our lack of commonsense Governments.

Minor correction to my initial post, whilst we won't get a 100% all LPG model, it appears we will be offered a bi fuel version which will obviously have the benefit of a very long range whilst LPG is available, the only drawback will be in the performance department compared to the other engine options on a vehicle this size.

I was going to go for the bi fuel version but the only lpg around here is miles away . I did fit a lpg conversion to a cavalier a long time ago think lpg was 29p a litre at the local ca;lor gas depot.

Not sure if there is a lack of performance with the Bi-Fuel models

for instance the current Bi-Fuel 1.0 TCe that has been sold in the uk
The Bi-Fuel version comes with 10BHP more than the Petrol engine.

Official figures 0-62 mph - approx mpg

Eco-G 100 (3 cylinder) lpg=13.2 seconds. Petrol=14.1 seconds - mpg: lpg-35, petrol 43
TCe 130 (3 cylinder) 9.9 seconds - mpg: 51
Tce 4x4 (3 cylinder) 11 seconds - mpg: 46
Hybrid 140 (4 cylinder) 10.1 seconds - mpg: 55

13 to 14 seconds is a very long time, I couldn't cope with this on the road, but I'm a bad ass anyway....

Leaving out the comparison of other engines
The same engine using LPG or Petrol
The LPG is a little slower using lpg than it is using petrol
but
The same engine in just the petrol version has 10 BHP more, although its the torque that does the pull and the Bi-Fuel has 170Nm whereas the Petrol only has 160Nm

If I had to choose from the 2024 models, it would be the TCe 130 3 pot model for my current needs, it's virtually as good as the TCe 150 on paper, the Expression model I think as it has a manual shift and has a traditional parking/hand brake, but I prefer the dash of the Essential model and the non connected approach, what we need is a TCe 130 in Essential trim

I haven't noticed any reduction in performance on LPG, in fact I believe it's supposed to give 10 bhp over petrol . However my main reasons for opting for the bifuel were:
Cost of LPG
Range
Apparently kinder to the engine.

Just for reference because I'm a very boring OldBear with an opinion:

160 Nm = 118 ft/lb
170 Nm = 125.3 ft/lb

Outgoing TCe 90 - 160 Nm/118 lb/ft
Outgoing TCe 100 bi fuel - 160 to170 Nm/118 to 125 lb/ft
Outgoing Tce 130 - 240 Nm/177 lb/ft
Outgoing/gone Tce 150 - 250 Nm/184 lb/ft - the most perfect power to weight ratio to date - for the petrol Duster anyway!

Then there was the
Tce100 petrol
before they chopped it to the
TCe 90 petrol
same engine they just dropped it by 10BHP
(this happened around late 2020)

That's about the same time they altered the tuning on the TCe 130, maybe the 150 too but they made that an auto only sadly, the mpg figures in the brochures didn't change  ......
